1. 1000s of affordable housing subsidies will end in the next 5 years. A new database will help Pa. get in front of the issue. (timesleader.com) — From Harrisburg, state leaders have approved a new public database to track when affordability requirements on subsidized housing units expire, aiming to protect thousands of renters across Pennsylvania. The Housing Finance Agency will build it without new funding, giving local advocates and officials better tools by 2027 to intervene before rents spike or buildings are sold.
2. Gov. Shapiro Announces Expanded Pennsylvanian Train Service Will Begin in Nov. (gantnews.com) — Harrisburg will gain a second daily Amtrak Pennsylvanian train this November, boosting options between New York City and Pittsburgh and strengthening the city's role as a key rail hub. Backed by more than $80 million in state investment and major federal funding, the expansion promises better connectivity, jobs, and infrastructure improvements along the corridor that runs directly through Harrisburg.

Two measles-related deaths become Pennsylvania's first in 35 years (wate.com) — State health officials in Harrisburg report Pennsylvania's first measles-related deaths in 35 years, both involving unvaccinated Lancaster County residents. With nearly 400 state cases so far this year and rising national numbers, they're urging residents to recognize symptoms early and rely on the two-dose MMR vaccine, which offers strong, long-term protection.
4. Pennsylvania firefighters prepare for unpredictable wildfire mission in Washington (wgal.com) — From a staging point in Harrisburg, 20 members of Pennsylvania's Wildland Fire Crew are gearing up for a two‑week deployment to fight Washington's Sinlahekin Fire. The trip offers critical help to Western communities while giving local firefighters hard-to-get training and experience with unpredictable wildfire conditions they can bring back home.
