Neighbors debate how to address Harrisburg street's expanding cat colony (wgal.com) ā Neighbors on Kensington Street in Harrisburg are grappling with a rapidly growing feral cat colony that some see as a nuisance and others view as part of the neighborhood. Residents are debating whether they should shoulder costs for trapping and neutering, while local humane groups promote TVNR programs and the city has yet to clarify its role in managing colonies.

Developer plans to turn long-empty Harrisburg lots into 34 places to live (pennlive.com) ā A new phase of affordable housing called TLC Capstone is planned for Walnut, Regina, 15th and 16th streets in Harrisburg, adding 34 units for residents around 60% of area median income. Backed partly by federal relief funds and city support, the project follows the successful TLC Cornerstone Renewal and aims to replace blight with wellālit townhomes, duplexes and triplexes.

UPMC Harrisburg launches part-time nursing program for working adults (fox43.com) ā Working adults in Harrisburg can now train for nursing careers through a new 32āmonth, partātime evening RN diploma program at UPMC Harrisburg, starting January 2027. Firstāyear courses run through Harrisburg University, applications are open until Oct. 1, 2026, and the program aims to expand Central Pennsylvania's nursing workforce while letting students keep fullātime jobs or family duties.

Popular children's author coming to Harrisburg for stage show, book release (pennlive.com) ā Families in Harrisburg can see Diary of a Wimpy Kid author Jeff Kinney live at Scottish Rite Cathedral on Oct. 19, with an interactive stage show tied to his new book "Fight or Flight." Organized by Midtown Scholar BookstoreāCafe, the evening event includes preāsigned books with every ticket, free parking, and extra Wimpy Kid titles and merchandise for sale on site.

HACC among 14 community colleges receiving millions in Pa. grants (abc27.com) ā Harrisburg Area Community College is receiving two state grants totaling $625,000 to upgrade cooling and heating systems at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center and the Public Safety Training Center. The funding is part of $25.4 million awarded to 14 Pennsylvania community colleges to modernize facilities, improve campus life, and better support workforce training across the state.
