1. Conservation area in Paxton Township expands by 12 acres (local21news.com) — Outdoor access is getting better just outside Harrisburg, with Boyd Big Tree Preserve in Lower Paxton Township adding 12 acres, new parking, and a trailhead up to Blue Mountain. 2. Cumberland County man arrested for shooting into Harrisburg convenience store (pennlive.com) — Harrisburg police arrested a 19-year-old Hampden Township man after he allegedly fired a shot into a North Sixth Street convenience store in September, narrowly missing four people inside. He now faces multiple aggravated assault and firearms charges, is being held in Dauphin County Prison on $100,000 bail, and has a preliminary hearing set for October 28.
3. Pa. Farm Show to return in 2027 with fan favorites in Harrisburg (lehighvalleylive.com) — Harrisburg will again host the Pennsylvania Farm Show in 2027, bringing back the butter sculpture, food court, and other fan favorites to the Farm Show Complex from January 9–16. Local residents can look forward to eight days of animals, competitions, and classic fair-style foods under the new theme, "Leading a Legacy."
4. Shapiro Administration Highlights New Innovate in PA 2.0 Program During Visit to Harrisburg University of Science and Technology (pa.gov) — A major new state innovation program is being rolled out at Harrisburg University, with $125 million in funding aimed at helping local startups, life sciences firms, and tech companies grow. For Harrisburg residents, that could mean more high-paying jobs, expanded career pathways, and stronger support for underserved entrepreneurs across Central Pennsylvania in the coming years.
5. Man Goes To Car Dealership. Then He Falls Victim To The Little-Known 'Technician Trap' (motor1.com) — A Harrisburg auto shop co-owner is drawing national attention for warning fellow mechanics about what he calls the "technician trap" at car dealerships, where flat-rate pay can punish experienced workers.
