2 Haverford High Schoolers Nominated To United States Service Academies

These two local students have been nominated for appointment to the United States Naval and the United States Air Force academies.

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — Three Haverford High School students have been named nominees for appointment to the United States service academies for the Class of 2030 by Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (D-5th District).

Scanlon honored these two and 23 other local students, along with their families, at a recognition ceremony on Feb. 15 at her district office in Chester.

Haverford High School's nominees are Sean Lawson and Jadon Truong. Truong was nominated to the United States Air Force Academy. Lawson was nominated to both the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Naval Academy.

Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

"I was honored to celebrate these accomplished young men and women of the Class of 2030 and their commitment to serving our country," Scanlon said. "Our youth are the future of our country, and I am confident that my young constituents will flourish as future leaders. I commend them on their nominations and look forward to their journeys should they elect to attend one of the service academies."
