30 Of 60 Delco Nursing Homes Have Active Coronavirus Outbreaks

Nursing home residents make up about a quarter of the county's total coronavirus cases and about three quarters of its coronavirus deaths.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — New daily cases of coronavirus in Delaware County appear to be waning, but the virus is still infecting people and taking lives, mostly among the nursing home and long term care facility populations.

According to the most recent data provided by Chester County, Delaware County has seen a total of 10,279 cases of the virus to date. Additionally, 773 people in Delaware County have died from the virus.

Of those cases, nursing home and long term care facility residents account for 25.8 percent of cases, with 2,651 cases total.

Of Delaware County's 62 nursing homes and long term care facilities, 30 have active coronavirus outbreaks as of Friday.

Additionally, 604 nursing home and long term care facilities residents have died from the coronavirus. That's 78.1 percent of all coronavirus-related deaths in the county.

Below are age demographics for nursing home and long term care facility deaths:

  • Under 60 — 13
  • 60 to 69 — 52
  • 70 to 79 — 129
  • 80 to 89 — 215
  • 90 to 99 — 172
  • 100 and older — 24

Of those deaths, 57.78 percent have been women and 42.22 have been men.

  • 10 to 19 — 648
  • 20 to 29 — 1,711
  • 30 to 39 — 1,419
  • 40 to 49 — 1,357
  • 50 to 59 — 1,606
  • 60 to 69 —1,304
  • 70 to 79 — 800
  • 80 and older — 1,269

In Delaware County, women account for 56.11 percent of cases and men account for 43.89 percent of cases.

Upper Darby has the highest case count in the county with 1,633 identified to date. Middletown has had the most deaths with 160.

Yeadon has the highest case concentration, as 4.47 percent — or 513 — of its 11,471 resident having been infected.

As of Friday, Delaware County has gotten 84,952 negative test results back and has a 79.42 percent recovery rate.
