HAVERTOWN, PA — An Italian restaurant in Havertown will permanently close in a few days after struggling to keep up with rent.
After 21 years, Giampino's Cucina Italiana's last day in business will be Sunday, owner Jason Marsh announced.
"Despite our best efforts, the business is not generating enough revenue to meet operating costs, particularly rent," Marsh said on the business's Facebook page. "I have invested everything I could into making this restaurant succeed, but unfortunately, it was not enough to keep it afloat."
Jason and his wife, Tracy, took ownership of Giampino's in early 2025. The lifelong Havertown residents and high school sweethearts sought to maintain the family-friendly atmosphere that the Giampino family created, but economic headwinds quickly took their toll.
Property owner M & R Professionals, LLC filed a landlord/tenant complaint in November after the restaurant fell $12,000 short on their $5,000 monthly rent, court records show.
The court approved the eviction in December, barring the restaurant coming up with the overdue rent and fees.
The Marsh's posted a GoFundMe to help keep the business alive, generating about $4,400 toward their $10,000 goal.
"Like many small restaurants, we have struggled through rising costs, unpredictable sales, and lingering effects of recent economic challenges," the GoFundMe says. "Despite our best efforts—cutting costs, hosting special events, and working endless hours—we have reached a breaking point."
With the closure looming, Giampino's asks that customers use their gift cards before their final day of service. If you can't, you can request a refund by emailing giampinoscucina@gmail.com. All party deposit refund requests can be sent there too, says Jason Marsh.
"This has been an incredible journey, and I am truly grateful for the relationships and memories we’ve built together," Marsh said. "I gave this everything I had, and while the outcome is not what I hoped for, I am proud of what we created."
