UPPER DARBY, PA — A 14-year-old girl was shot and killed Thursday in an Upper Darby home, according to reports. Investigators believe she was shot by accident while children played with a gun.
The shooting happened Thursday afternoon on the 100 block of Springton Road, police said.
Officers found the victim in a rear bedroom with a gun next to her, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. She was brought to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police say four children were alone in the house when they found a handgun, according to 6abc Action News. The teens were playing with the weapon in a bedroom when it fired, striking the girl in the head.
The victim was a student at Beverly Hills Middle School, according to Upper Darby School District officials.
Authorities haven't released her name as of this writing.
The case remains under investigation, and no charges have been announced.
