HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ — Two Haverford Township residents recently lost thousands in separate scams, police said.
Both incidents were reported May 13.
In one incident, the victim received a call from a person claiming to be from the Delaware County Sheriff's Office. The caller convinced the victim she had outstanding citations. She withdrew $6,000 and sent the money to the scammer through Bitcoin.
Similar sheriff scams have been reported elsewhere in Delco.
Meanwhile, a Haverford Township resident told police May 13 that he got caught up in an online stock exchange scam. Over a period of time, he took out over $2,400 in loans to pay for the scam, police said.
