LANSDOWNE, PA — The William Penn School District in Delaware County has suspended all athletics to investigate "an alleged incident that implicates culture and climate in athletics," officials said Thursday.
District officials didn't share any other details about the allegations. But in the meantime, athletics have been paused at Penn Wood High School and Middle School.
The district has appointed an outside investigator to evaluate the information, school officials said Thursday in a statement.
"Student safety and well-being remain paramount," the announcement says. "The district will conduct a fair and thorough review under applicable district policies. Student-athletes will have the opportunity to share their experiences through a climate survey to help inform this work."
The William Penn School District serves about 5,000 students in the communities of Aldan, Colwyn, Darby, East Lansdowne, Lansdowne and Yeadon.
Families can also email communications@wpsd.k12.pa.us to share positive experiences within Penn Wood athletics. The feedback will help the district understand what's working well and what to improve.
"We recognize that this pause is disappointing for students, families, coaches, and supporters," the district said. "Athletics provides meaningful opportunities for connection, growth, and teamwork, and we are committed to fostering a safe, respectful environment for every student."
