Ex-Crozer Patients Getting Billed Nearly 2 Years After Health System's Shutdown

Crozer Health is gone, but former patients have reported just now getting sent bills. Here's what local elected officials say you should do.

Nearly two years after Delaware County's largest health care provider shut down, some former patients have reported getting billed for past medical care at Crozer Health.

Crozer ceased operations and closed its last two hospitals in Delco last year, after its parent company, Prospect Medical Holdings, went bankrupt.

Recently, former Crozer patients have reported receiving collections notices nearly two years after their procedures, according to State Rep. Leanne Krueger, whose district includes part of Delco.

The Pennsylvania Insurance Department told her office that Prospect sold outstanding medical debt to UnitedMediCorp, a debt-collection company. UnitedMediCorp is now sending collection letters.

The Insurance Department strongly encourages residents to follow the disputes process provided with the bill — especially if you believe it was already paid or resolved.

"We are advising people to use the dispute process to determine whether the medical debt is legitimate," Krueger said. "We are also directing individuals to file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office."

State Sen. Tim Kearney advised residents with questions or concerns to call his office weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at 610-544-6120.
