Brookline Business District Gets Spruced Up
New sidewalks and lighting are being installed as part of a grant program.
The commerical block of Brookline Boulevard near Darby Road is looking better every day.
Almost $240,000 worth of work in the form of new sidewalks and curbs, improved draining and energy-saving lighting is being done to help revitalize the block.
The entire project should be completed in a month, said Larry Gentile, manager of Haverford Township.

The funding is two years' worth of federal Community Development Block Grants. Two years ago, the township did the same type of renovation in front of businesses on Manoa Road near West Chester Pike.
"We're tying to help beautify the township," Gentile said.

New lighting is also being installed on Eagle Road between Darby and Darby, but that funding comes from the township's general fund. The new lighting also extends to the Oakmont parking lot.
