The gas station was open at the time of the accident, but no one was in the service area at the time of the crash. The Exxon station has a cashier’s booth near the gas pumps where an employee was stationed at the time of the accident and called police.

Vince Mercer is the manager of the Exxon station, which is owned by Lehigh Gas Company of Bethlehem, Pa.  Mercer said the station will remain open for gas service but was unsure when the service area would be re-opened.

Haverford Township police are investigating the exact cause of the accident. Officer Harvey Pike said they had identified the victims but would not release their names until the investigation is complete. The accident scene was cleared by 6:50 p.m.
