Coronavirus Hospitalizations, Cases Increase Sharply In Delco

New cases this week nearly reached 1,070, and average coronavirus hospitalizations increased by more than 27 percent over the past week.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — New coronavirus cases and hospitalizations have increased sharply in Delaware County over the past week, according to the latest data from the state.

The newest data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health shows a nearly 100-case increase since last week and a more than 27 percent increase in average coronavirus specific hospitalizations.

New confirmed cases jumped from 973 to 1,064 over the past seven days.

Average hospitalizations went up from 46.7 to 64.

The average number of daily coronavirus patients on ventilators was reported at 7 this week, an increase from 3.4 last week.

Additionally, the county's incidence rate per 100,000 people saw an increase from 171.1 to 187.6.

Positive testing rates dropped by 0.1 percent, going down from 9.7 to 9.6 percent.

Lastly, the percent of people showing up to emergency rooms with coronavirus-like illnesses went down from 2.3 percent to 1.9 percent.

To date, Delaware County has seen 58,928 confirmed cases of the virus and 1,536 coronavirus-related deaths.

As of Friday, 325,400 people have been fully vaccinated in the county and 63,104 have been partially vaccinated. Since Aug. 13, 79,224 people have received an additional dose of the vaccine.
