Coronavirus Vaccinations Near 4,000 In Delaware County

Nearly 4,000 people in Delaware County have been administered partial doses of the coronavirus vaccine, which requires two doses.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Almost 4,000 people in Delaware County have received the initial dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to data provided by the state.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health's new vaccine dashboard shows the vaccination totals by county.

According to the dashboard, 3,945 people in Delco have received the first dose. Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two doses.

Delaware County officials Wednesday all three health systems in Delaware County have been vaccinating frontline healthcare workers and will be continuing to vaccinate to provide all healthcare workers protection from the virus.

The County continues to plan for wider vaccination distribution to the medical community and to the public.

As more vaccines become available, Delaware County will work with the Chester County Health Department and the Pennsylvania Department of Health to distribute the vaccine more widely.

Distribution will include several permanent vaccination distribution sites, at least one mobile site and distribution at schools, businesses and other locations.

In all, 115,251 Pennsylvanians had been partially vaccinated as of Thursday.

The vaccine doses currently being administered are exclusively for healthcare workers, EMS first responders and vulnerable populations in long term care facilities. There remains a long road ahead for individuals not in this first priority phase, as millions of Pennsylvanians wait their turn.

"We can all have hope that next year will have a brighter ending than this year," Gov. Tom Wolf said in a statement Wednesday. "And that hope should energize us to keep our guard up and continue the fight against COVID-19 in the months ahead. By working together, we can keep one another safe while we wait for the vaccine."

Nearby, Chester County has received 3,080 partial vaccinations, Philadelphia 3,349, Bucks 5,220, and Montgomery 6,657.

Allegheny County has received the most partial vaccinations of all counties, with 12,343 administered as of Thursday.

Statewide, 76,053 vaccines have gone to women and 33,408 to men. The 30-34 age group was the five-year bracket with the largest number of vaccinations, at 13,817, the dashboard shows.
