County Dems Back Out Of Debate At 'Last Minute': Report

The debate among County Council candidates was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was cancelled at the last minute, reports say.

A debate originally scheduled Tuesday among the candidates running for Delaware County Council was abruptly cancelled after Democratic candidates withdrew from the League of Women Voters-sponsored event at the last minute, the Delaware County Times reported.

According to the newspaper’s report, the announcement to cancel the debate among the candidates seeking the three county council seats was made Tuesday afternoon.

Democrats Christine Reuther, Sharon Booker and Richard Womack backed out of the debate, telling the Delaware County Times the event had not been adequately publicized, and they had concerns about mobile devices being used during the forum.

In a posting Wednesday morning the DelcoGOP said: “What are the Democrats hiding? Maybe its the fact that one raised taxes by 20 percent and another by nearly 25 percent. Or maybe its the Democratic candidate who wants to cut funding for the Administration of Justice in Delaware County, which includes money for the DA’s office and the county 911 center. Or maybe its the candidate who says she doesn’t know how she will be any different from Democrat politicians in the City of Philadelphia. Guess they do have a lot they don’t want voters to know about them.”

Incumbent Republicans include Colleen Morrone, John McBlain and Michael Culp.
