COVID In Delco: New Cases Down, Hospitalizations Up

Half of the six key coronavirus metrics measured by the state have gone up in Delco while the other half have decreased.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — New data on the coronavirus in Delaware County shows a mix of good and bad, as half of the six metrics went up while the other half went down.

Newly reported cases, the incidence rate per 100,000 people, and the positive testing rate saw a decrease over the past seven days.

Average daily hospitalizations and ventilator use, as well as the percent of people showing up at hospitals with coronavirus-like illnesses, increased.

This week saw 664 new cases, down from 709 last week.

The county's incidence rate per 100,000 people went down from 125.1 to 117.2.

As for the testing rate, 6.1 percent of tests came back positive this week. Last week, that percentage was 6.8.

Average daily hospitalizations had a small uptick, from 41.1 to 43.1.

Average daily ventilator use among coronavirus patients increased from 3.4 to 4.6.

Lastly, the percent of people showing up at emergency rooms with coronavirus like illnesses went up from 1 to 1.8.

As of Friday, 293,747 people have been fully vaccinated in Delaware County; 33,351 have been partially vaccinated.

The county has seen 50,215 confirmed cases and 1,449 coronavirus related deaths to date.
