COVID Hospitalizations Up, Ventilator Use Down In Delco

Four of the six key coronavirus metrics saw decreases in the past week, according to the most recent data from the state.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — The most recent data on the coronavirus in Delaware County is a mix of good and bad, as some key metrics increased while others decreased.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, two of the six key coronavirus metrics went up over the past week in Delaware County.

The county's positive testing rate increased from 6.3 percent to 6.8 percent in the past seven days.

And average daily coronavirus hospitalizations went up from 38.4 to 41.1.

Despite increased hospitalizations, ventilator use saw a decrease. Over the past week, average daily coronavirus patients in hospitals on ventilators dropped from 4 to 3.4.

Newly reported cases decreased from 681 to 665.

The county's incidence rate per 100,000 people went down from 120.2 to 117.3.

Additionally, the percent of people showing up to hospital emergency rooms with coronavirus-like illnesses went down from 1.3 to 1 percent.

As of Friday, Delaware County has had 49,500 confirmed cases of the virus and 1,444 virus-related deaths, according to state data.

The state reports 291,385 people in Delaware County have been fully vaccinated and 33,497 have been partially vaccinated.
