Delco Coronavirus Cases Near 10K; Nursing Deaths Top 600

The latest data on the coronavirus in Delaware County shows nearly 10,000 people have contracted the virus since the start of the pandemic.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — The coronavirus has infected nearly 10,000 people and killed more than 600 nursing home and long term care residents in Delaware County, according to data provided Friday.

The most recent data on the coronavirus's impact in Delaware County shows a total of 9,990 cases since the start of the pandemic.

Friday's data shows 770 people have died from the virus in Delaware County. Of those 770 deaths, 602 (or 78 percent) have been nursing home or long term care facility residents.

Additionally, nursing home and long term care facility residents account for 2,641 of the county's 9,990 cases. That figure represents 26 percent of all cases in the county.

Upper Darby Borough has the highest number of cases with 1,584; Middletown Township has seen the most deaths of all Delaware County municipalities with 158.

  • 10 and under — 156
  • 10 to 19 — 602
  • 20 to 29 — 1,644
  • 30 to 39 — 1,386

  • 70 to 79 — 792
  • 80 and older — 1,259

In Delaware County, women account for 56.31 percent of cases and men account for 43.69 percent of cases.

As of Friday, Delaware County has had 79,175 negative coronavirus test results reports and has a 77.37 percent recovery rate.
