Delco English Teacher Found Dead In Creek: Delaware State Police

A 50-year-old English teacher at Academy Park High School was found dead in the Brandywine Creek last week, Delaware State Police said.

SHARON HILL, PA — A Delaware County high school English teacher was found dead in a Delaware creek last week, according to Delaware State Police.

Police said Susan M. Ledyard, 50 of Wilmington, Delaware, was found dead Brandywine Creek in the area of the Church Street Bridge in Wilmington at about 8:58 a.m. on July 23.

Ledyard was an English teacher at Academy Park High School in the Southeast Delco School District. She had been with the district since 2006.

Police are investigating her death and are asking anyone with information on her death to contact Detective Amy Lloyd of Troop 2 at (302)365-8411

"The Southeast Delco school community is deeply saddened by the death of Susan Ledyard," the district said in a statement. "She was an excellent teacher and had a great impact on the many students that she taught. She provided leadership for Academy Park in the areas of reading instruction and English preparation for college bound students."

The district said counselors are available for students and staff on from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 29 at Academy Park High School.
