Delco Substitute Teacher Accused Of Assaulting Two Elementary Students
The man was working at an Upper Darby School District elementary school when the alleged incidents occurred.
A substitute teacher in Delaware County is facing charges after allegedly assaulting two elementary students.
James J. Loftus, 74, of Drexel Hill, has been charged with simple assault and harassment, according to court records.
Loftus was arraigned Feb. 4 and released on $20,000 unsecured bail, court documents show.

He is slated to appear in court for his preliminary hearing on March 30, according to court documents.
Loftus was serving as a substitute teacher at Westbrook Park Elementary School – part of the Upper Darby School District – in February, according to the Delaware County Daily Times.

He is accused of hitting or poking two students with a cane and is also accused of grabbing one by the neck, the Times reports.
Loftus has seen be suspended from working for Substitute Teacher Service in Aston, the outlet reports.
Additionally, the school district has taken steps to make sure Loftus is not placed in the district again, according to the Times.
