Derrick Rollins, Alleged Haverford Killer, In Custody: U.S. Marshals

Breaking: a special task force took Rollins into custody Tuesday in Georgia, federal agents confirmed.

HAVERFORD, PA – Derrick Hershal Rollins, the man accused of killing a Narberth man on July 29, is in custody as of Tuesday afternoon, U.S. Marshals agents confirmed to Patch.

Rollins, 24, of Philadelphia, was taken into custody in Decatur, Georgia at about 12:45 p.m. by a U.S. Marshals task force, agents confirmed.

Rollins initially hid in a residence while agents looked for him, but U.S. Marshals tell Patch he surrendered without incident when he learned a K9 unit was on scene.

Rollins is being held in the DeKalb County jail awaiting extradition to the Philadelphia area, agents confirmed.

The arrest is a result of joint investigations with the U.S. Marshals in Philadelphia and Atlanta, Georgia, as well as Philadelphia, Haverford, and Brookhaven police departments, officials said.

Authorities in the greater Philadelphia area learned Rollins was in the Decatur, Georgia area, specifically the Hidden Villas apartments on the 2900 block of Panthersville Road in Decatur.

When that information was passed on to U.S. Marshals in Atlanta, agents moved quickly to bring him into custody, officials said.

Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal James Burke without the teamwork between these law enforcement entities.

"We couldn't be happier with the results of the investigation," Burke told Patch.

Detectives from the Haverford Township Police Department along with Detectives from the Delaware County Criminal Investigations Division will be traveling to Georgia to conduct an interview with the
suspect, Haverford Police said Tuesday afternoon.

"The apprehension of this dangerous criminal is the result of an exhaustive joint investigation between numerous agencies that crossed several different counties and states," a press release from Haverford Police said. "The different agencies were able to work together each providing different types of valuable information and resources along with witness reports and technological information. The culmination of this information sharing resulted in providing numerous leads as to the suspects whereabouts."

"Chief Viola and the entire Haverford Township Police Department would like to express our thanks to everyone who assisted in bringing this subject to justice and helping provide some closure to the victim’s family along with helping ease the minds of all the residents of our community," police said in the press release.

Rollins was wanted for allegedly killing John Le, 29 , of Narberth, in Haverford Township on July 29, as well as allegedly firing 17 rounds at two men in Philadelphia about 45 minutes before Le's death.

The fatal shooting occurred at about 6 p.m. Saturday, July 28 at an apartment on the 2300 block of Haverford Road in the Ardmore section of the township.

Rollins was last seen fleeing toward Lower Merion Township after the shooting.

Philadelphia Police said at about 5:10 p.m. on the 1600 block of North 77th Street in Overbrook, a victim was told by phone that someone was looking into the rear entrance of his residence.

Another person joined him to check the area and the pair saw a male, later identified as Rollins, matching the description if the suspicious person, police said.

When confronted by the two men, the Rollins pulled out a firearm and began to shoot, police said.

The vehicle both victims were traveling in was struck several times.
