Officer Shoots, Kills Man Who Had Knife In Delco: Officials

ALDAN, PA — An investigation is underway after an officer shot and killed a man early Thursday in Delaware County, officials said.

An Aldan Borough police officer responded to a 911 call around 3:30 a.m. at South Clifton and Aldan avenues, according to a statement from the borough.

At the scene, the officer encountered a man with a knife, officials said. During the encounter, the officer deployed a Taser and then shot him.

The man was brought to Lankenau Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The officer had minor injuries evaluated at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital.

It's unclear what prompted the 911 call, or what happened before the officer used their weapons. Authorities haven't released the names of anyone involved at this time.

The Delaware County District Attorney's Office is investigating the shooting. But an agency spokesperson withheld further details on Thursday.

The officer has been moved to administrative duty as the investigation plays out, per Aldan Borough's use-of-force policy.

"Because the investigation by the Delaware County District Attorney's Office remains active, Aldan Borough will not release additional details at this time," the borough's statement said.
