Fireworks Caused Truck Fire In Delco, Woman Charged In Connection

Authorities said Danielle Menasion, 41, gave fireworks to kids, who when set them off, causing a truck to catch fire in Darby Township.

DARBY, PA — A truck fire started by fireworks has led to a Delaware County woman being charged with several crimes, including felony risking catastrophe.

Darby Township Police said Danielle Menasion, 41, of Glenolden, was charged with risking catastrophe, endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors, recklessly endangering another person, and more crimes in connection with the June 1 incident.

Police were called to 700 block of Cooke Avenue at about 8:46 p.m. June 1 for a report of a vehicle fire.

Officers found a pickup truck engulfed in flames and were told the blaze started when a group of kids were lighting and throwing fireworks in the area.

Police later found security footage they said showed Menasion giving the kids fireworks she bought at a grocer.

According to police, the kids were lighting and throwing the fireworks at each other and into the air in front of Menasion.

At some point, at least one of the fireworks landed in the bed of a pickup truck, causing it to catch fire, police said.

Menasion was taken into custody Monday and was released on $75,000 unsecured bail.

She is scheduled for a July 23 preliminary hearing, court records show.

According to court documents, Menasion pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child in 2019 and was sentenced to prison time and probation.
