Flu Shot Clinic Coming To 69th Street Station Dec 2

UPPER DARBY, PA — A flu shot clinic is coming to a major transportation hub in Delaware County as flu season ramps up.

The Delaware County Council, SEPTA, the Delaware County Department of Intercommunity Health, and volunteers from the Delaware County Citizen Corps will be hosting a free "Healthy for the Holidays" flu shot clinic for commuters from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2 at the 69th Street Terminal Great Hall, 6901 Market St. in Upper Darby.

Flu shots are available to all residents of Delaware County, 3 years and older. No insurance is required, and no appointments are necessary.

Health officials urge all individuals to get a flu shot. The intensity and severity of flu seasons are difficult to predict, and the effectiveness of the flu vaccine is dependent on many variables. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found immunization reduces the risk of flu illness by 40-60 percent during seasons when most circulating flu viruses are well-matched to the flu vaccine.

Receiving a flu shot is the first and most important step in preventing the flu and decreasing the risk of severe flu-related illnesses. Each year, 200,000 people in the United States are hospitalized due to complications from the flu.

Only the Fluzone Quadrivalent Influenza vaccine will be used – high dose vaccines for residents 65 years of age and older will not be available.

Individuals must wear a mask/face covering.
