Former Haverford Commissioner, 57, Dies Suddenly

Mario Oliva served on the Haverford Township Board of Commissioners for 16 years.

HAVERTOWN, PA — Mario Oliva, a former Haverford Township commissioner of 16 years, died suddenly on Saturday, according to his obituary. He was 57.

Oliva was born in Media. He graduated from Haverford High School in 1986 and then from The Chubb Institute, a technical school.

He worked as a computer programmer for Automated Financial Systems in Exton.

For 16 years, Oliva served on the Board of Commissioners, representing the 2nd Ward.

He was also on Discover Haverford's board for several years, where he "blazed the path for our excellent partnership with Haverford Township," the organization said after his death.

"He was also actively involved with our beautification projects and our Haverford Home & Garden Show," Discover Haverford said on social media. "He was the recipient of our Civic Engagement Award in 2022 for his many accomplishments in making Haverford Township a better place. He will be remembered for his exceptional support for our work and will be greatly missed."

7th Ward Commissioner Conor Quinn said it was an "honor" to serve on the board with Oliva from January 2020 to January 2022.

"His help and advice was meaningful to me as a commissioner," Quinn said. "Mario helped make Haverford Township a wonderful place to live."

Oliva died of an apparent heart attack, according to a post on his former commissioner Facebook page.
