GSK Science in the Summer™

School may be out, but science is
in! GSK Science in the Summer™ brings simple machines to elementary students at
Philadelphia libraries

- Register now, space is
limited

Philadelphia
County students entering second through sixth grade are invited to register and
attend GSK Science in the Summer™. This free, fun experiment-oriented course is
taught by certified teachers to groups of 16 students in two age groups:
children entering second and third grades (Level I), and children entering
fourth through sixth grades (Level II). GSK Science in the Summer™ is sponsored
by GSK in partnership with The Franklin Institute and local libraries.

Course Description:

GSK Science
in the Summer™ will teach Philadelphia students the basics of physics through
experiments involving six types of simple machines: the lever, the inclined
plane, the screw, the wheel, the pulley, and the gear. Philadelphia County
students will build simple machines that help people to do work—such as lifting
huge boulders, building bridges, pumping water, and many other critical
tasks—more easily. Students will learn about motion, and will discover that
everything in the universe moves and why this is the case.
