Gun Caught At Delco School Security Checkpoint Tuesday: Police

A 16-year-old student at Chester High School tried to bring a pistol past the school's security checkpoint Tuesday morning, police said.

CHESTER, PA — A student tried to bring a gun to a Delaware County high school Tuesday, according to police.

The City of Chester Police Department's School Resource Officer was contacted by Security Personnel from Chester High School at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Security told police a 16-year-od student tried to make it past the school's security checkpoint with a pistol, police said.

That student was detained by security staff and was taken into custody by the School Resource Officer.

Charges will be filed against the teen, police said.

"I have to commend the actions from Chester Upland School District's security personnel, and the police department's School Resource Officer for their quick action and recovery of the firearm," Chester Police Commissioner Steven Gretsky said.
