Haverford Crime Blotter: Fraud, Counterfeiting, Vandalism, More
Police reported numerous instances of checks in the mail being stolen then altered and cashed. See details on these and more incidents here.
HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Haverford Township issued their weekly crime blotter Wednesday.
Incidents in the blotter occurred between Feb. 9 and Feb. 15.
The blotter also features arrests made and citations issued.

- Theft at the 2100 block of Chestnut Avenue on Feb. 9 at 8:32 a.m. – Multiple vehicles were entered - loose change, sunglasses and gift cards were stolen.
- Fraud at the 100 block of East Marthart Avenue on Feb. 9 at 10:12 a.m. – Victim reported that someone accessed his bank account and removed a large amount of money.
- Fraud at the 1300 block of Lawrence Road on Feb. 9 at 2:32 p.m. – Victim reported that a check he mailed had been altered and cashed.
- Counterfeiting at Acme, 1300 block of West Chester Pike, on Feb. 9 at 3:07 p.m. – Loss prevention officer reported that an unknown male purchased $600 worth of gift cards with counterfeit $20 bills.
- Identity Theft at the 1900 block of Lawrence Road on Feb. 9 at 5:48 p.m. – Victim reported that someone used her identity to file for unemployment benefits.
- Criminal Mischief at the 200 block of Washington Avenue on Feb. 9 at 7:47 p.m. – A pane of glass in the front door was broken.
- Fraud at the 800 block of Naylors Run Road on Feb. 10 at 10:13 a.m. – Victim reported that a check he mailed had been altered and cashed.
- Fraud at the 1300 block of Steel Road on Feb. 10 at 3:27 p.m. – The victim received a call from someone claiming to be from her bank. They advised her that there was fraudulent activity with her checking account. The victim provided the caller with her information before recognizing the scam.
- Fraud at the unit block of Llandaff Road on Feb. 10 at 5:02 p.m. – Victim reported that a check he mailed had been altered and cashed.
- Fraud at the 700 block of Haverford Road on Feb. 10 at 5:21 p.m. – Victim reported multiple unauthorized purchases made with her credit card.
- Identity Theft at the unit block of Upland Road on Feb. 10 at 4:21 p.m. – A Verizon and PayPal account were opened using the victim’s identity.
- Theft at the 400 block of Steel Road on Feb. 11 at 9:15 a.m. – Victim reported that a large package was stolen from the victim’s porch after it was delivered.
- Counterfeiting at The Bakery House, 600 block of Lancaster Avenue, on Feb. 11 at 8:32 a.m. – An unknown male paid for his merchandise with a counterfeit $100 bill.
- Fraud at the 400 block of Rittenhouse Circle on Feb. 11 at 11:56 a.m. – Victim reported that a check he mailed had been altered and cashed.
- Fraud at the 100 block of Hillcrest Avenue on Feb. 11 at 2:56 p.m. – Victim reported that a check he mailed had been altered and cashed.
- Fraud at the 2000 block of Haverford Road on Feb. 12 at 2:58 p.m. – Victim reports that a check he mailed was altered. He mailed a check in the amount of $232.74 made out to Verizon and he noticed the same check was made out to an unknown person in the amount of $18,878.34.
- Retail Theft at Kohl’s, 200 block of West Chester Pike, on Feb. 13 at 6:12 p.m. – Two unknown males stole $1,272 and fled the store.
- Public Drunkenness at Boccellas Deli, unit block of West Eagle Road, on Feb. 13 at 5:04 p.m. – 37-year-old male, 100 block of South 15th Street, Philadelphia, was cited for public drunkenness.
- Identity Theft at the unit block of Claremont Boulevard on Feb. 14 at 11:02 a.m. – Victim reported that someone opened a credit card account using his identity.
- Fraud at the unit block of Mercer Avenue on Feb. 14 at 1:31 p.m. – Victim reported that a check was altered after she mailed it.
- Fraud at the 800 block of Martin Avenue on Feb. 14 at 3:55 p.m. – Victim reported that someone changed her information in her online profile for her unemployment benefits.
- Criminal Mischief at the 300 block of Twin Oaks Drive on Feb. 14 at 2:29 p.m. – A group of juveniles smeared cheese on lawn statues.
- Retail Theft at Lowe’s, 100 block of West Township Line Road, on Feb. 15 at 9:37 a.m. – An unknown female stole $490 worth of wire and fled the store.
- Identity Theft at the 200 block of Pine Ridge Road on Feb. 15 at 1:01 p.m. – Victim reported that someone used her identity to file for unemployment benefits.
ARRESTS:
- 39-year-old male, 2900 block of Kensington Avenue, Philadelphia. Charges: Retail theft and receiving stolen property. Location: Kohl’s, 200 block of West Chester Pike. Date: Feb. 9 at 8:22 p.m.
- 58-year-old male, 5800 block of Catherine Street, Philadelphia. Charges: Retail theft and receiving stolen property. Location: Acme, 1300 block of West Chester Pike. Date: Feb. 9 at 9:10 p.m.
- 20-year-old male, 3800 block of Bonsall Avenue, Drexel Hill. Charges: Prohibited offensive weapons and recklessly endangering another person. Location: 1000 block of Larchmont Avenue. Date: Feb. 11 at 11:10 p.m.
- 21-year-old female, 600 block of County Line Road, Morton. Charges: DUI, suspended driver’s license and failure to stop. Location: 1200 block of West Chester Pike. Date: Feb. 13 at 1:12 a.m.
- Three juveniles were petitioned to juvenile court. Charges: Possession of marijuana. Location: Haverford Middle School. Date: Feb. 9 at 3:30 p.m.
- Two juveniles were petitioned to juvenile court. Charges: Identity theft and access device fraud. Location: 400 block of Earlington Road. Date: Jan. 18 at 7:07 p.m.
