Haverford Eyeing Single-Use Plastic Bag, Straw Ban

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — Single-use plastic items such as bags and straws may be a thing of the past in Haverford Township.

At Monday's Board of Commissioners meeting, a new ordinance got its first reading.

Ordinance No. P2-2022 seeks to regulate some single-use plastic items.

Items that would be regulated under the ordinance include single-use plastic carry-out bags, single-use plastic straws and stirrers.

The ordinance aims to promote and facilitate reusable bag use.

The Delaware County Daily Times reports the commissioners voted 7-2 on the ordinance's first reading.

Should the ordinance be enacted into law, enforcement would begin in January next year.
