Haverford High School Students Honored for Achievements
Students who won regional and state competitions were recognized by the school board.

More than 150 Haverford High School students were honored before the school board for achievements in a variety of competitions, including robotics, science, journalism, music, business and world languages.
The students who received awards before the school board last week had participated in activities at district, regional and state levels; and in some cases, they will move onto national competitions, said Haverford High School Principal Jeffrey Nesbitt, who presented the awards.
Students from the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) won a regional competition and placed in the top 10 in the state this spring when they competed against close to 4,000 students in Hershey, Nesbitt said.

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association awarded the bronze medal for journalistic excellence to Haverford High School’s student-run newspaper, the Fordian, Nesbitt said.

The Haverford High School Science Olympiad Team was recognized for placing seventh at a regional competition, and taking ninth place at a state tournament that included 300 middles and high schools, Nesbitt said. In the Pennsylvania Science Olympiad, Jeff Mogavero and James Hiebert both received first place for “Water Quality.”
The Haverford Robotics Club was lauded for placing ninth out of 55 teams in the Philadelphia Regional competition. Robotics Club members came to the front of the high school auditorium with a robotic truck which performed wheelies.
In November, the Haverford High School Competition Marching Band placed first among 25 competing bands from five states at the Cavalcade of Bands American Division Open Class Champions, Nesbitt said.
Haverford High students were also noted for achievements in orchestra, chamber singing, and Latin, French and Spanish.
