Haverford Middle School First Year for Math Team

This is the first year for an official Math Team at the Middle School, and students are showing off their H Pride in local and national competitions.  Approximately twenty-five Sixth, Seventh and Eighth graders are currently working with Math teacher Teresa Riley in preparation the Lower Merion Math Tournament later this month.  

In November, the team competed in the American Mathematics Competition. June Park and Brian Walheim won AMC Pins for being the top performing students at HMS. June Park was also awarded a special Certificate of Achievement as a 6th Grader for outstanding performance. Park, Walheim and student Jeannie Lee each won First Place Section Awards. 8th Grader Emlynn Thorogood received a 2nd Place Section Award.

In February, the team competed in the Math League National Math Competition. Richard Chen received High Honors for top performer at the MIddle School. Additionally, Certificates of Merit were won by the following students: First Place: RIchard Chen, Cole Forrest, and June Park;  Second Place: Maya Grassi, Brian Walheim, and Luke LoSasso; and Third Place: Mikaela Baratka, Seamus Magee, and Sophie Helfer.
