Haverford Township 2017 Proposed Budget Contains Tax Hike: Report

The 2017 budget stands to be $48.48 million, up from 2016's $41.1 million.

Haverford Township's proposed budget could being a tax bump for township residents, as the proposed $48.48 million budget is up over $7 million from the adopted 2016 budget, according to budget documents and the Delaware County Daily Times.

The times reports the budget contains a 2.67 percent real estate tax hike, changing the millage rate from 7.785 to 7.993 mills.

According to township budget documents, real estate taxes make up 56 percent of the general fund in the preliminary budget. The real estate tax revenue for 2016 totaled $23.72 million and is projected to be $24.47 million in 2017.

The largest expenditure for the 2017 budget is for law enforcement, with $16.54 million expected to go to police. In 2016, police accounted for $16.3 million.

Township supervisors unanimously adopted the preliminary 2017 budget at and will vote on final approval at its Dec. 12 meeting.
