Haverford YMCA Gymnast Wins Pennsylvania State Championship

Haverford Area YMCA Gymnastic Team goes to state championship and comes away with many winners!

Nine Haverford Area YMCA gymnasts recently competed in the YMCA Pennsylvania States Gymnastics Meet in Greensburg, PA. The meet was open to gymnasts from Level 4 to Level 9 who reached the qualifying score during the year.

Maya Bright won five medals including the top prize, 1st place all-around, in the 8-year-old age group of the Level 4 competition! On individual events, Maya came in 1st place in vault and floor exercise with scores of over 9.0 each, and came in 4th on uneven bars and balance beam. Congratulations to Maya! Ella Tor also won five medals in Level 4 in the 10-year-old age group, finishing 7th place all-around. And brand new teammate Giavanna Prosada scored just shy of an impressive 30 points all-around in her first States meet. The States meet concludes the competitive season for the Level 4 gymnasts.

Danielle Snyder was our big winner in Level 6, earning 4th place all-around in the 15-and-older age group, based on her 2nd- place win on beam and 4th place on floor exercise. In the same age category, Antonia Moffa won three medals, one 5th- place medal for beam and 6th- place medals on bars and floor exercise. Blake Heath won a 4th- place medal for bars despite competing with a badly injured toe. In the 12-year-old age group, Neta Tor won three medals, including 3rd- place on bars and 6th- place all-around. Seniors Caroline Rosen, Level 6, and Lucinda Eisenstein, Level 8, both came within one place of earning medals on floor ex and vault. The Level 6 and 8 gymnasts are looking forward to the YMCA Nationals meet at the end of June in Long Beach, California.

In addition to the competition, the gymnasts and their families enjoyed their “team time” in Greensburg. They visited the local mall during off-hours, and the gymnasts were treated to ice cream at the end of the Level 6 meet, which lasted well into Saturday evening.

Congratulations to all of our gymnasts!
