Hospitalizations, Ventilator Use, More COVID Metrics Up In Delco

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — The coronavirus is still impacting Delaware County negatively, sending more people to hospitals each week.

According to the latest data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, five of the six key metrics have increased in Delaware County.

The only metric to decrease was the percent of people showing up at hospitals with coronavirus like illnesses, which went down from 1.7 to 1.5 percent.

Since last week, the average number of coronavirus patients in hospitals went from 24.1 to 39.7.

And ventilator use among those hospitalized saw a jump from 0.4 to 2.9 over the past week.

Last week saw 440 newly reported cases of the virus, but this week saw 613 new cases, the data shows.

That increase comes along with the incidence rate per 100,000 people going up from 77.6 to 108.2 and the positive testing rate increasing to 6.1 from 4.8.

As of Friday, 285,739 people have been fully vaccinated in Delaware County; 33,857 have been partially vaccinated.

State data shows the county has seen 48,095 cases of the coronavirus and 1,435 coronavirus deaths to date.
