Man, 85, Dies In Haverford House Fire: Police

The fire was reported around 10 a.m. Monday on the 500 block of Strathmore Road, police said.

An elderly man died in a house fire Monday in Haverford Township, according to police.

The fire was reported around 10 a.m. on the 500 block of Strathmore Rd.

When police arrived, they observed “heavy” smoke and fire coming from the back of the house. Officers attempted to get inside the home but were “driven back by heavy smoke conditions,” according to a police press release.

Firefighters responded and located an elderly man on the first floor. He was transported to Lankenau Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

MainLineMediaNews.com identified the man as Bob Fox, 85.

The home sustained heavy damage and has been demolished, police said. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, police said.

The investigation into the fire is being conducted by the Haverford Township Police Department with the assistance of both the Delaware County Detectives and the PA State Fire Marshall Office.

Fire Apparatus from Brookline, Llanerch, Oakmont, Manoa and Bon Air Fire Companies assisted on the scene, along with units from Penn Medicine Paramedics, and the Haverford Township Police Department.
