New COVID Cases Drop 27 Percent In Delaware County, Data Shows

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Over the past week, Delaware County saw a substantial drop in new coronavirus cases, according to the latest data from the state's health department.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health's most recent figures on the coronavirus in Delaware County show overall positive progress in battling the virus.

According to data provided Friday, the county saw a 27 percent decrease in new cases since last Friday.

Last week, new cases were 710. This week, new cases are down to 519.

The county's positive testing rate saw a drop, too. This week's rate is 4.8 percent, down from 6.1 percent.

Another metric with a notable decrease is the county's incidence rate per 100,000 people. As of Friday, the rate is 91.6, a considerable drop from 125.3 recorded last week.

The three other metrics — average daily hospitalizations, average daily patients on ventilators, and the percent of people showing up to emergency rooms with coronavirus-like illnesses — saw very slight changes over the past seven days.

While the percent of people showing up to emergency rooms with coronavirus-like illnesses went down from 1.7 to 1.6 percent, the other two metrics increased a bit.

Average daily hospitalizations and average daily patients on ventilators went from 43.1 to 44.1 and 4.6 to 4.7, respectively, since last week.

As of Friday, 296,524 people in Delaware County have been fully vaccinated and 32,189 have been partially vaccinated.

The county has seen 50,786 confirmed cases to date; 1,453 people in Delaware County have died from coronavirus complications.
