New Life for the Oldest Club Spot in Delco

It's had more names than it has stairs leading up to the oldest nightclub facility in Delaware County. It's been a banquet hall, a speakeasy, a billiards lounge, a 60s-style nightclub and just about everything in between.

Now it's open again with new owners who have dubbed the space on the second floor of 1254 West Chester Pike (between Starbucks and McDonald's just east of Eagle Road) Nineteen 19 Bar and Grill in a tribute to the club's roots.

Matt Rossi and his business partners bought the bar last summer and they're on a mission to re-introduce the club to people looking for a place to have good time close to home.

There are some things the new owners want you to know about 1919: 

• The first thing they'd like you to know is that the place is there.

• Set back from West Chester Pike and on the second floor with no entrance on the main drag means you have to look for it.
• The club is on the second floor and you will need to climb the stairs.  Rossi says some people come for the first time, see the stairs and figure they're in the wrong place. 
• There is a huge parking lot, but it's not so obvious. The entire parking lot behind the McDonald's is free and available to 1919 patrons.
• 1919 is NOT the address. It's a reference to the era when the first club opened in the space.
• It's not the same place it used to be. Rossi says they offer great food from a professional chef.
• It's not a place with a reputation for trouble that the location has been in decades and years past.

Nineteen 19 is open Monday-Friday from 4 p.m.-2 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m.-2 a.m..
