Person In Custody After Reportedly Shooting At Cops In Delco

UPPER DARBY, PA — Police in Upper Darby spent a few hours looking for a shooting suspect and with the help of K-9s and helicopters, the suspect was taken into custody.

Upper Darby Police were called to the 100 block of Terrace Avenue in Upper Darby at about 1:12 a.m. Friday.

The Delaware County Daily Times reports five officers who showed up to the area were met with gunfire by the suspect, who police said was "laying in wait" for officers.

Police said initial reports stated an officer was shot, but that turned out to be false.

One officer suffered a bullet graze wound, another a hand wound, and an officer from another department was bitten by a police K-9, the outlet reports.

Action News reports the suspect tried to break into a home and was detected on the residence's security camera, prompting the resident to call police.

Police said by about 3:15 a.m. the suspect was taken into custody and a handgun was recovered.

According to NBC10, police were supported by an armored truck, a helicopter, and several K-9s in their search for the suspect.

Police have not released further details on the incident as of 9:30 a.m. Friday.
