Popular Ice Cream Shop Coming To Havertown, Replacing Al Pastor
One of the Main Line's best-known ice cream destinations is opening a new shop.

HAVERTOWN, PA — One of the Main Line's biggest names in ice cream is expanding to Havertown.
Handel's Homemade Ice Cream will open a new shop at the former home of Al Pastor Havertown, which closed in January.
Al Pastor, a Mexican restaurant, didn't close for a lack of business. It was because someone put forth a great offer to buy the property, according to Joe Monnich, co-owner of Al Pastor's parent company.

"In December we had someone approach us," Monnich told Patch in January. "They essentially gave us an offer to buy the building and the business."
The future of the restaurant is now clear, with Handel's set to take the space.

Handel's has more than 150 stores around the country, including the Berwyn location, which is one of the Main Line's best-known ice cream shops.
Buck Buchanan, the Berwyn shop's franchisee, will also own the Havertown shop, according to savvymainline.com, which first reported the news. Buchanan hopes to open the store this summer.
Al Pastor Havertown operated for nearly two years at 13 West Benedict Ave. The Exton location remains open.
