School Board Honors Winners of the Domenick J. Recchiuti Awards

HAVERTOWN - School Directors of the School District of Haverford Township awarded a staff member, a student and a community member with the Domenick J. Recchiuti Humanitarian Award at the School Board Meeting on June 5 at Haverford High School. 

Mr. Domenick J. Recchiuti, was a former Haverford parent and active community volunteer who also served as a school director, devoting much of his time to helping others. He was a familiar, and welcomed presence in all seven schools and at school events. He cared deeply about the quality of education that every student received, and he spent his life serving others.

The 2014 Domenick Recchuiti Humanitarian Award was given to staff member, Ms. Barbara Ellixson. Ms. Ellixson is a second grade teacher at Lynnewood Elementary School.  She was nominated for her leadership of students and staff in community service at Lynnewood.  Barbara has led the “Soup”-er Bowl of Caring Food Drive, which collected over 3000 items of food for local food banks, including publicity, logistics, volunteer coordination and execution for 3 years. 

The 2014 Domenick Recchuiti Humanitarian Award was given to student Courtney Dougherty. Courtney was honored for her countless hours of service at organizations like the Ronald McDonald House, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Connect by Night Homeless Shelter, Girl Scouts and the National Honor Society just to mention a few.

The 2014 Domenick Recchuiti Humanitarian Award was given to Community member, Ms. Nichole Bethel. Nichole is a Haverford parent with four children at the Middle School and High School. Nichole has volunteered at the Middle School on the Middle School Committee, Career Awareness Day and she is this yearís PTO President.
