DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Delaware County, like much of the nation, is in the midst of a fall surge of coronavirus cases.

As of Thursday, Delaware County had 17,756 total cases of the coronavirus.

The latest numbers come on the heels of the county's worst week for new coronavirus cases since the pandemic began. Last week, the county reported 1,362 new cases of the virus, an average of 195 new cases per day.

There were seven deaths from the coronavirus reported in Delaware County over the past week, bringing the death toll to 838.

This week, Pennsylvania health officials announced "targeted efforts" to fight the renewed spread of the coronavirus, including enhanced masking rules and protocols for people leaving and entering the state.

Locally, officials in places like Philadelphia have put their own COVID-19 restrictions in place. In Philly, new rules including indoor gathering and dining bans went into place on Friday.
