Police said a resident paid $20,000 to scammers he believed were helping an online acquaintance who was purported to be kidnapped.

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — Haverford Police released details on recent crime incidents that occurred in the township over the last week.

These incidents occurred between Jan. 28 and Feb. 3.

The blotter also features the number of citations issued.

  • Fraud at the 800 block of Garden Avenue on Jan. 28 at 12:39 p.m. – The victim reported sending up to $20,000 to individuals he believed were helping a kidnapped online acquaintance.
  • Theft at Giant, 100 block of W. Township Line Road, on Jan. 28 at 1:32 p.m. – A total of $104 worth of merchandise was stolen by a former employee during December and January.
  • Retail Theft at Giant, 100 block of W. Township Line Road, on Jan. 28 at 5:19 p.m. – Two unknown females stole $167 worth of merchandise.
  • Motor Vehicle Theft at the unit block of S. Eagle Road on Jan. 30 at 0802 hours.
  • Fraud at Waterford Apartments, 1900 block of Lawrence Road, on Jan. 30 at 4:21 p.m. – $647 worth of unauthorized purchases were made with the victim’s credit card.
  • Identity Theft at the 300 block of Crescent Hill Drive on Jan. 31 at 11:59 a.m. – The victim reported that someone attempted to take out a loan using his identity.
  • Motor Vehicle Theft at Lowe’s, 100 block of W. Township Line Road, on Jan. 31 at 5:05 p.m.
  • Theft at the YMCA, 800 block of N. Eagle Road, on Jan. 31 at 5:45 p.m. – A bag containing a wallet was stolen from an unsecured locker. Two unauthorized purchases were made with one of the credit cards.
  • Attempted Theft at the 100 block of W. Township Line Road on Feb. 1 at 4:29 a.m. – The victim reported that someone attempted to steal equipment from his work van.
  • Retail Theft at Lowe’s, 100 block of W. Township Line Road, on Feb. 2 at 7:40 a.m. – Two unknown males stole DeWalt merchandise.
  • Retail Theft at Lowe’s, 100 block of W. Township Line Road, on Feb. 2 at 9:02 p.m. – An unknown male and female stole $408.78 worth of merchandise.
  • Theft at the 700 block of Preston Avenue on Feb. 3 at 7:26 a.m. – The victim reported that tools were stolen from a job site. They also reported ongoing issues with neighboring contractors including unauthorized use of electricity and previous theft.
