Stormy Forecast In Haverford Prompts Closures, After-School Activities Canceled

A tornado watch remains in effect for the region until 7 p.m. Monday

HAVERFORD, PA — The forecast of extreme weather has prompted several cancelations Monday in Haverford Township.

The School District of Haverford Township has canceled all after-school and evening activities. This includes indoor sports practices.

Meanwhile, the Haverford Township Free Library will close at 4 p.m.

The township's Historical Commission meeting is also canceled.

Severe storms are predicted for Monday afternoon and evening, with the National Weather Service expecting showers, heavy wind and possible thunderstorms.

A tornado watch for the region is in effect until 7 p.m. Monday, while a wind advisory runs until 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Here's the National Weather Service's latest forecast for Haverford Township:

  • rest of Monday afternoon: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could be severe. High near 68. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Monday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 a.m., then a chance of showers between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Low around 31. Breezy, with a south wind 20 to 25 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
