The Fords Are Still A Dangerous Team

The return of quarterback Eddie Durkin means the Haverford High School team is still a force to be reckoned with.

coach Joe Gallagher has been waiting for the return of .

Gallagher has been saying his team would be much different team with Durkin back, and that came to fruition in the last Thursday, behind two touchdown passes from Durkin and one rushing touchdown from the junior quarterback.

Durkin missed the first five games with a broken right hand. The Fords sit at 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the Central League. Haverford still has a good chance to make the PIAA District 1 Class AAAA playoffs, but there is no room for error.

The Fords will have to run the table, winning their next four, to make that possible. But Haverford will be going into the meat of its schedule fully loaded.

“We think Eddie is one of the best quarterbacks in the county, and it’s two-fold, because we get our best quarterback back, and we get our best running back in Michael Clancy, who’s been forced to play quarterback (while Durkin was out),” Gallagher said. “There is a confidence level throughout this whole team with Eddie back, and we have our best shot now at things. It’s a whole better atmosphere.”

Haverford hosts Radnor this Friday at 7 p.m., then it gets tougher with Marple Newtown, Conestoga and Garnet Valley in successive weeks—all three Central League contenders in a row.

“We’re going to get Radnor’s best shot, and we’re not looking past Radnor by any means, and the way Coach (Tom) Ryan runs his program,” Gallagher said. “This will be Eddie’s second full game back and he’s building physically even more. As the weeks go by, he’ll get better and better.”
