'Underdog' Haverford H.S. Takes Octorara To The Dog House 32-7

Starting quarterback Eddie Durkin contributes in major way to a second quarter flurry of touchdowns that proves enough to put away Octorara.

IN SHORT

Coming into the game Octorara garnered all the attention being the power team in the conference, but the Fords showed in their Thursday night upset over the Braves that the Fords should not be overlooked.

The Fords started the game a little anxious as they surrendered an early first quarter touchdown to the Braves, but going into the second quarter Haverford buckled down answering in a major way.

In that second quarter the Fords notched 25 unanswered points. A major contributor to their impressive offensive attack was their unfamiliar starting . Durkin had a strong finish last year, but has spent all of this season pinned to the bench being plagued by a right hand injury. In his first game back, he showed that The Fords have one added offensive threat for opposing teams to have to worry about.

The QB had a great game both passing the ball and running it. He compiled over 100 yards passing the ball including two throws for TD's as well as a 17 yard run for a touchdown.

In the second half the Fords carried that same momentum as they halted any efforts of a Braves comeback. Putting the clamps on defense, Haverford went on to shutout Octorara in the second half finishing the game with a final score of 32-7

COACH'S TAKE

"We were a little anxious, and then we settled down. One of the big factors was getting my starting quarterback back. We've been playing without him for four games and he's one of the best QB's in the league. They are one of the best team's in the conference, we knew this going in. I'm so proud of my guys for taking an hour and a half bus trip and coming out here and beating a good team.—Head Coach Joe Gallagher
