Woman Found Fused To Bed, Covered In Feces And Maggots: Delco Police

UPPER CHICHESTER, PA — After authorities found an elderly woman covered in feces and maggots and fused to her bedsheet, the woman's son was charged with felony neglect of a dependent person and recklessly endangering another person.

Daniel Klein, 51, of Upper Chichester, was charged Sunday after police were called to a home on Dresner Circle for a wellness check.

According to Upper Chichester Police, officers were called to the home at about 12:20 p.m. Sunday by a neighbor of the property after seeing packages stacked up at the front door and getting no answer knocking on the property's doors.

When police showed up, they found numerous Amazon packages and several white plastic bags consisting of unopened food at the front door.

When knocking and ringing the bell, police received no response from inside the home, which led them to look inside windows and check the back of the home.

Inside, they saw trash strewn across the floor, and out back they found numerous flies on the windows.

The officers eventually forced their way into the home, believing the resident was either dead or suffering a medical emergency, and when they got in they met Klein.

Officers saw large amounts of trash and packages inside the front door and throughout the entryway and were met with a "foul odor," police said.

Klein took the officers to check on his mother, where she was sleeping, and en route to the room they saw more trash and packages, as well as numerous flies, police said.

In the room, Klein's mother was found unconscious on a bed, under a soiled blanket, police said.

EMTs were called to the home and took the blanket off the woman, which led them to find her lower half covered in feces and maggots, according to authorities. Her toenails were also described as "ram's horn toenails" by police.

The EMTs also found her to be fused to the bedsheets, police said.

She was taken from the bed to Crozer Chester Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Klein was taken to the Upper Chichester Township Police Department, where he was processed and held for arraignment.

He was held on 10 percent of $50,000 bail, court records show.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 25.
