In this exhibition exploring thinking about literature in visual terms, eighteen contemporary artists respond to literature on the theme of water. The artworks are diverse in style (with subjects treated representationally or abstractly), as well as in media (oil, liquitex, water-color, mixed media, or dyes, on paper, canvas, panel, or terra cotta). The literature is as well-known as an essay by Thoreau and as private as personal poetry.

Many colleges have their own art collections for the public to enjoy. Privately, many of their administrative and support staff enjoy their own small collections of fine art obtained from unlikely and inexpensive sources, such as yard sales, flea markets, and inheritances. Come and see the interesting and fine examples of art which are found in the homes of Moravian College's employees.
This jewel of an exhibition is organized for Payne Gallery by Moravian's own Jane Schaffer, on the occasion of her retirement.
