Getting Rid of the Negativity

Most people are becoming sensitive to negativity. A few years ago I didn't understand why the news, certain TV shows and certain people made me feel almost sick to my stomach. Then I started hearing that a lot of others felt the same way. Part of my issue is that I want to help everyone in any way that I can. Watching the news made me depressed and made me realize that I just cannot do that.

While at one point I was thinking how sad it was that the news was always focused on the negative. But then getting on facebook back in 2010 I realized that there are so many positive, inspirational pages and stories. I felt compelled to open up my own page. It not only helps others stay focused on the positive but it also helps keep me focused. If you are interested, my facebook page is called Happy Inspirational Scrappin!

So how does one get rid of the negativity in their life? Well it starts with you. Check in with your focus. Are you focused on the negative in your life or the lives of others? Are you consumed by the news? How about negative TV shows? Do you have a lot of negative relationships or people in your life? Is your home filled with clutter? How about your mind?

I'll give some tips on what I did that really helped. The first thing I did was clear the clutter from my home. Not just the dust bunnies. I went through my paperwork and shredded everything I didn't need. My closet was next. I took out everything that I hadn't worn in over a year and gave it to Good Will. We went through the kids toys, the pantry, the garage, and cleared more space in every room. My home felt peaceful and I was able to relax more. Next was the cable. And we never had a newspaper delivered so that wasn't an issue. Then it was time to work on myself. But how do we get rid of the negative people in our lives? First we have to take a minute and figure out why they are there. They could be there as a reminder of how you don't want to be. They could also be mirroring a behavior of yours. Another reason is a lesson you may need to learn or a lesson for the other person. Maybe it is about forgiveness, patience, trust, timing, love.

Next, take some time to notice if you are seeing the person in a negative light because you are focusing only on what you do not like about the person. When we change our focus, we can actually find good in everyone.

Meditation was what changed my mindset to be more positive. It is a practice I engage in every single day. When I was able to clear my mind I was able to control my thoughts. This made it much easier to be positive when I was starting to feel angry or upset. During meditation I would ask a Higher Power (that could be whatever you believe in; God, the angels, the Universe, etc.) to distance me from negative people. It amazed me how quickly the negative people in my life seemed to either be really busy or they left.

The last thing I did was ask a Higher Power to bring into my life more like-minded, positive people. I am now blessed with amazing, spiritual and positive people and LOTS of them.  None of us get caught up in the drama of life. If we are meant to hear something that is on the news, we all know that someway the news will be delivered to us. We do not go searching for it. We also send much love and light to everyone in the world, especially the darkest places. We are here to make a positive difference in the world but it starts with us.

Love and light!
