Does Our Area Need a Skate Park?

Bethlehem's skate park continues to draw tons of local teens. The South Side facility offers them a place to perform tricks and have fun without damaging public property.

Although the Saucon Valley has , there's currently no designated area for teens who love to perform tricks on their skateboards or bikes. The idea of having a designated skate park in Hellertown has been a topic of conversation for years, but for various reasons the concept has never come to fruition.

Meanwhile, the recently-opened Skateplaza across from the Sands casino in Bethlehem has continued to attract scores of young people. The fenced-in park features concrete ramps designed especially for riders of skateboards and bicycle tricksters.

What do you think? Is the Bethlehem Skateplaza close enough to serve the Saucon Valley's residents? Or should local young people have their own facility? If so, how should it be funded and where would you like to see it located?
