William J. McCarthy Jr.

William J. McCarthy Jr., 93, of Coopersburg, died May 12, 2012.  He was the beloved husband of Elaine (Sneed) McCarthy.  They celebrated 72 years of marriage this past August.  Born in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late William J. and Lydia McCarthy.  He served his country honorably in the 1^st Cavalry Division of the US Army, in the Pacific Theater during WW II.  He received the Phillipine Presidential Unit Citation for the Liberation of the Phillipines in 1945.  He was an engineer in the corporate office of the former Bethlehem Steel for 43 years before retiring in 1981.

Survivors: wife; son, William J. III, of Springfield Twp, Bucks County; daughter, Pamela M. Gallagher, of Orefield, PA; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Bell of Greenwich, CT.  He was predeceased by a brother, John, and sisters: Vesta, and Grace.

Services: Thursday, 11 a.m., , 1418 Main St., Hellertown.  All are invited to a viewing on Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment with military honors will be in Washington’s Crossing National Cemetery.
